10 Ways to Refresh Your Golf Home Landscape

With the warm season well under way and summer fast approaching here in beautiful Sarasota, there's no better time to refresh your landscape and reinvent your outdoor living space. It's time to host cookouts and pool parties, to spend evenings entertaining and laughing around the fire pit, and to wow your family and friends with wonderful features that make your backyard the envy of everyone who sees it. The good thing about landscaping is it doesn't have to cost a lot of money and no matter the amount of space you have to work with, it's enough to really transform it into a beautiful space.

When to Update Your Outdoor Space

The first question to ask yourself is about the current condition of your backyard landscape. If you've not done anything to it for some time, it might look a bit outdated or just bland. Your perception probably won't be far from the truth and you'll need to make a few improvements. What you always need to consider are four factors. These are based around functionality, which include such things as safety, low-maintenance, comfort, and privacy. You certainly don't want to create a safety hazard, task yourself with a lot of future work, make the space uncomfortable, or give up your privacy.
If your backyard feels a little ho-hum, get ready to give it a makeover. Whether you have a small yard, or a property where acreage is no object, you can enhance your lawn and garden in a number of ways. You can add a patio or a simple deck, beef up your landscaping, or create a garden that brings beauty and wildlife into your backyard. If you’re on a budget and need to do it on the cheap, there are several easy and inexpensive things you can do to accomplish a first-rate backyard makeover. What's great about remaking your outdoor living space is that you have complete control over the new look. You can add a deck, which by the way, has a really good return on investment, install a stone or brick patio, or even put in an outdoor kitchen and a few plants. Usually, the best time to redo your outdoor living space is when you plan on using it most. Since the summer is nearly here, now is a very good time to refresh your back yard landscape.
10 Ways to Refresh Your Landscape

If you are going to update your outdoor living space, but don't have any real direction and need a few ideas, here are ten ways that you can makeover your landscape and make it look wonderful:

Add patio or deck plants. Big things come in small packages and a patio or deck that isn't furnished with finishes such as colorful flowers and plants feels incomplete and isn't inviting.

Plant a tree, but not just any tree. Trees are the biggest part of any landscape design and can provide shade and beauty. However, you don't want one that's a heavy pollen producer or is non-native to the area.

Give yourself some privacy. Many homeowners like to have dedicated outdoor spaces that are free from prying eyes. You can install a fence, plant bamboo, or hedges to give your backyard boundaries and provide you with privacy.

Go vertical with a pergola. When we think about landscaping, we tend to think about it as horizontal and ground level. After all, that's where most plants go and where the pool is sunk into the ground. A pergola makes a great addition and can be covered with vines to provide a shaded retreat.

Throw down some stones. You can lay a stone or paver pathway, install a patio, or put in a rock garden. Stones are versatile landscape elements that add complementary hardscaping to your outdoor living space.

Plant some perennials. Perennials are perfect for softening up hard patio and deck lines. A nice mix of blooming perennials will provide colorful accents for a couple of years.

Include annuals in your design. While annuals only pop for a short period, they do so in magnificent fashion and instantly add quite a bit of color.

Dive right into a pool. If you don't have a pool but have thought about installing one, now is the best time to do so. You'll have a centerpiece and a relaxing place to cool off.

Install small water features. You don't necessarily have to go all out and put in a pool when you can just add a small water feature or two to create a relaxing space.

Upgrade your cooking space. Another way to really transform your backyard living space is to install an outdoor kitchen. This will be a great functional feature and a big selling point of your home.
